Well, I'd like to say that Mark Shainblum's Playing Solitaire has what is definitely one of the best closing paragraphs we've ever seen here in A Thousand Faces.

Cheers also to Mr. Piers, who managed to give us a story that actually made sense in the modern world, and worked in just about every believably applicable cliché in the process -- in a good way.

Just wanted to pass on a few comments on some of the stories found in the issue. I'm enjoying the heck out of it, from the standpoint of a fan, as well as that of a writer.

Robert S. Tyler's "Murder on Scorpion Island," quickly sets a terrific mood. What a truly believable place has been created, but more believable are the characters and their humanity. The sense of nostalgia and fear lays over the unfolding events like a heavy quilt. The end is no surpirse, but that in itself is surprising.

I enjoyed the lore so casually imparted by Scott Harper in "Final Night," as I learned some interesting facts about vampires while being seemingly compelled to read on by the tone and texture of the story. The unique presentation seemed to create an sense of such a deep period of time passing, thought the story appears to take place in a single night.

Derek J. Goodman had me holding my breath during the entire course of the events that transpired in "Sunshine." What a complex "hero" we have here, and the delivery of the tale is almost flippant; so casually psychopathic!

Andrew Dean's "Bride of Sunshield" has an epic feel to it. An expose of collateral damage inflicted upon hero's wives. We come at the concept of metahumans from such a skewed angle that a whole new can of worms is opened, as well as a seeming fodder-bag of unique ideas. What a tragedy we witness, through the eyes and mind of the charismatic protagonist, and I enjoyed the cynicism very much.

"Homecoming," by E C Myers lasted only long enough for me to get out a sniffle, while answering a question on all our minds. "There really was no choice" is a line that says so much, and the uplifting final line imbued me with a sense of well-being.

Thanks Frank and crew for the coveted Editor's Choice Award, I really appreciate it. I had a blast writing my Justin stories for ATF and receiving input on them. I will continue to read each issue of ATF as Justin takes a well-deserved rest.
