I finished the new Ultimates novel last week, and I have to say, I continue to enjoy these characters better in the two novels than I do in the comic series. Part of that has to do with Mark Millar's bombast in the comic, I'm sure -- it'll be interesting to see if I care more about the characters in the new Jeph Loeb incarnation coming up.
Anyway, as in the first Ultimates novel (Tomorrow Men), the battle continues to rage with the alien Chitauri, now living among us all over the country. There are some interesting allegories to the current political climate concerning terrorism -- how do you know who's a Chitauri, and how much personal freedom would you give up to be able to know for sure, that sort of thing.
Tony Stark was the focus of the first novel, but this one centers more on Captain America, really doing some interesting things with the whole "man out of time" element of his character. Not much from Thor again, who remains the most interesting Ultimate to me, maybe because we haven't seen that much of him of yet.
Interesting read -- I'd recommend it. |
